Plain Ketchup – Episode 044

Plain Ketchup

Playing catch-up is necessary sometimes. Sometimes life happens. It gets all up in your grill and tries to mess up your best laid plans. When that happens your only choice is to podcast at a much slower pace than expected.

Sometimes life happens all over your Co-Host.

So we have an elegant solution to that. That solution is, of course, to recap everything in one giant recap episode.

We don’t necessarily hit all the points, but we get some of the top ones that we thought were neat.
We don’t necessarily even talk about events more than I go off on a long rambling excuse about why Windows has made my life slightly inconvenient.

Sometimes Windows happens…

But why does it always happen to ME?!

Yeah. That’s not really as important a point here. So anyways.

We have another episode where we are playing catch-up on some of the better topics that happened and as always click the thing below if one of these interests you and we can possibly go more in-depth into it!

  1. Hi Max and Matt,

I am working through an IT/cyber security degree and I find your podcast to be very very valuable. Over the past two months I’ve been working through your podcast from the start and have learned a lot and reinforced many other concepts. Thank you for taking the time to make this podcast and I hope you can find the time to continue making them at regular intervals.

    • Hi Josh,

Sorry for neglecting the podcast in all aspects, including this comment section, for so long. Thank you for your very kind feedback that I just discovered in my quest to update show notes for episode 45. It’s really nice to hear that our speaking out into the abyss is reaching people and resembles something of value.

I too have the same hope for regular intervals… I have every desire to. but our track record isn’t great so I feel we don’t deserve trust if I were to make a promise to do this. Let’s see if we’ve turned the corner on our slacking off, can rebuild some trust in doing that, and can make a good push at these podcasts coming out on a regular basis.

      Thanks for listening,
      Max

  2. hi guys.
following up on cryptocurrency which you mentioned, how about doing an episode regarding cryptocurrency breaches? there have been plenty lately.
    keep up the great work

    • Thanks for the feedback. I’ll do a little more research into recent cryptocurrency breached and see if we can squeeze an episode worth out of it, or just enough to tie into the next few episodes on breaches. Sorry for the delay in noticing your comment.

  3. Hey guys, love the show. I am actually in the process of looking for a job in this space. I’m about to graduate from university with a degree in computer engineering and have been studying cryptography for some time. If you guys know about anything cryptography or computer security opportunities, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

    • There’s a ton of resources online you can use. Twitter can be helpful for finding people that are looking and even asking around the sub-disciplines within infosec you’re interested in. The defacto hash tag used for this is #infosecjobs.

Also, there are a lot of free and cheap security meetups around big cities. In Toronto, where I’m locate, there’s monthly meetups for defcon416 and Toronto Area Security Klatch (task.to). There’s also many bsides conferences which typically surround bigger / corporate security conferences (find ones in your area at http://www.securitybsides.com/w/page/12194156/FrontPage). At most conferences the MC ask for people who are hiring to identify themselves, and then there are socialization breaks where you can hunt them down and discuss opportunities with them.

      I hope this helps,
      Max
